FAQs

Q?I’m thinking about an ornamental iron project. What should I do next?
A.

Provide us with whatever information you may already have available including pictures of the installation site and pictures of design ideas.  The design process can be as simple as you seeing something in our collection of work that’s perfect, or drawing elements from different works to create something uniquely yours.  We can typically provide budget numbers based on knowledge of where it’s to be installed as well as a design concept.  Once a design is agreed upon, and a down-payment received, fabrication can begin.

Q?What color is iron?
A.

Iron is not black, as most people think. The color of raw steel is a gray color and can be painted any color that is desired. It can also receive many other types of finishing techniques.

Q?What do I need to do to refinish my iron patio furniture?
A.

If the items have received many coats of paint over the years, we suggest they be sandblasted which will remove all the old paint and leave only the bare metal. Then the items may be primed and painted.

Q?What should I do if rust forms on my exterior metal work?
A.

If the rusting problem is a minor one, take a steel wool pad or wire brush and take off the rust and the paint around it. Clean it well and apply a coat of a metal primer and a top coat of a high quality enamel paint (not a water base). If the rust has started to eat through the iron, the section can usually be replaced and the item restored. Give us a call and we would be glad to give you a quote on repairing your item.
